With the advent of iSCSI (ethernet to SCSI), and its use of TCP/IP as the transport mechanism, it is now possible for any organisation to gain all the benefits that a SAN can bring to data management by using their existing network technology. Because TCP/IP is a widely used and understood, there is no need to employ additional personnel or staff training programs to manage the infrastructure.

The Potomac ES1100 and ES2400 iSCSI bridges reduce the cost of implementing an iSCSI based SAN by providing iSCSI to SCSI connectivity. This functionality allows organisations to retain existing investment in SCSI based storage devices by bringing them into the SAN.

The ES1100 Bridge has been designed to give a cost effective solution for customers who wish to include their legacy SCSI devices in an iSCSI network The Potomac Bridge gives a cost effective alternative to the use of full performance, high end bridging solutions. With a sustained performance capability of 90MB/s combined with its very compact size, it is at equally at home on the desk top connected to a tape device as a remote backup device, or in the server rack connected to a departmental Autoloader.

The ESAS402800 is a high performance 40Gb iSCSI to SAS protocol bridge that provides a seamless connection between SAS enabled peripherals such as Disks, Tape Drives, Tape Libraries and Optical devices and IPStorage Networks using the iSCSI protocol.

The ESA40S2800 is based on our Next Generation Bridging technology and is housed in an industry standard 1U 19” rack mount enclosure. Connectivity to the IP SAN Network is via two QSFP whilst the SAS peripherals are connected via eight 6Gb channels spread across two mini SAS ports.

The SE1100 and SE4200 SCSI to iSCSI bridges replace the previous generation iSCSI Connect unit. These two models enable SCSI based Servers to connect to iSCSI enabled storage devices over a standard ethernet network.

Many legacy Servers installed and employed in day-to-day work are unable to support the iSCSI protocol due to either the cost of upgrade the server hardware and/or the Operating System. This means that they cannot benefit from the many advantages that iSCSI brings -just the flexibility to increase the distance between the Server and the devices and the ability to share devices between Servers underline the usefulness of moving to iSCSI.

With iSCSI Connect it is now possible to connect these SCSI based server to a iSCSI based network in a simple cost effective way. By placing the iSCSI- Connect device between the SCSI interface and the iSCSI network legacy servers can enjoy the benefits of iSCSI without any changes to the hardware, operating system or applications. Long Distance SCSI

For those users who wish to retain their SCSI storage devices but wish to distance these away from the Server for security reasons, have in the past only been able to achieve this by using dedicated devices linked by Fibre Optic cables. But now, by combining one of the SCSI to iSCSI bridges in combination with an ES2400 or one or more ES1100 iSCSI to SCSI bridges, it is now possible to achieve the remote operation of peripherals over an standard Ethernet infrastructure, or even broadband links.

The Rialto SFC4200 enables SCSI based Servers to connect to Fibre Channel enabled storage devices. The EFCS2240 combined iSCSI and Fibre Channel to SCSI Bridge is a high performance protocol bridge for connecting SCSI enabled peripherals such as Disks, Tape Drives, Tape Libraries and Optical devices to Fibre Channel Networks and IPStorage Networks.

The EFCS2240 is housed in an industry standard 1U 19” rack mount enclosure with integral power supplies and cooling. Connectivity to the IP Network is via 2 autosensing 1Gb Ethernet ports that can detect the network connection speed, whilst the Fibre Channel Network is connected via two 4Gb auto-sensing ports. The SCSI peripheral devices are attached via the 4 Ultra 160 SCSI ports.

Managing and installing the EFCS2400 could not be easier with its inbuilt intuitive GUI that is easy to use and provides the user with on screen help where necessary.

PERTEC to SCSI TAPE ADAPTER

The Avax Pertec to SCSI interface is designed to allow a modern, high capacity SCSI interface tape drive to interface directly to the manufacturer supplied interface on any system that currently supports a standard Formatted Pertec interface drive.

This interface is available:

  • as a board level product
  • as a standalone unit with power supply and cables
  • or integrated into a complete sub-system including tape drive, disk drive or flash tape unit.
